Pearson - the education company - sells a workforce analytics API, and the lineage explains why: it acquired Faethm, an Australian workforce analytics firm, in 2021, and the Workforce Solutions API platform is that modeling engine behind a REST surface. Where most labor market APIs describe the present (who is hiring, what it pays), Pearson’s is built to model the future: which technologies will impact which occupations, which skills are emerging or declining, and what reskilling path moves a worker from a shrinking role to a growing one. This post maps the API surface as documented and is not affiliated with Pearson.

## What’s in the reference

The documented platform groups roughly fifty endpoints into seven areas. **Occupations** is the largest: details, search, snapshots, compensation by country and year, and per-occupation skill lists split into top, emerging, declining and trending - plus historical trend series. **Skills** mirrors that at the skill level, including an AI skills list and related-skills lookups. **Industries** repeats the emerging/declining/trending lens per industry. **Tasks** breaks occupations into task lists - the unit that automation analysis actually operates on.

## How access works

Authentication is JWT bearer tokens, and that is roughly where the self-serve story ends: the public documentation lists no pricing, no rate limits and no sign-up flow. Budget accordingly: if you need a key this afternoon, this is not that kind of API.

## Who it fits

The buyer shape is visible in the endpoint list. Learning pathways, resume mapping and skill extraction serve L&D and workforce transformation teams - unsurprising given Pearson sells the learning content those pathways lead into. Technology-impact modeling serves strategic workforce planning: the “which of our 40,000 roles does AI change” question boards now ask. ## The gap: models need ground truth

Everything in this API is derived data: occupation models, projections, impact scores. Useful - but a projection ages the moment the market moves, and the check on any “emerging skills” model is whether employers are actually asking for those skills in postings this month.
