## Hiring is concentrated

40.7% of open postings sit at employers with 100 or more live roles. For a job seeker that means most listings come from a short list of very large employers; for anyone using postings as a signal it means a single employer’s requisition habits can move an occupation’s numbers.

## How fast postings close

On company career sites, where a posting closes when the employer closes the requisition, the median posting that closed in the last 60 days was live for 22 days and three in four closed within 42. 12.3% closed within a week and 59.0% within a month. Aggregators expire postings on a timer, so their lifespans measure the board’s rules more than the hire; [job posting lifespan](https://jobspipe.dev/job-posting-lifespan) has the board-by-board picture.

## This month’s studies

- [Ghost Job Index](https://jobspipe.dev/blog/ghost-job-index): 9.5% of active postings have been up 45+ days, and career-site postings at the largest employers are 3.8x as likely to be long open as those at the smallest.
- [Pay transparency by state](https://jobspipe.dev/blog/pay-transparency-by-state): 73.3% of postings show a salary where a posting law is established, 44.1% where none applies.
- [AI jobs and entry-level hiring](https://jobspipe.dev/blog/ai-jobs-entry-level): 16.4% of AI roles are entry level, but inside tech they are as open to juniors as other roles.

## Reproducing a number with the API

Every figure here comes from the same index the search API serves. This counts software developer postings in the US first published in the last week:

```
curl -X POST https://api.jobspipe.dev/v1/jobs/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JOBSPIPE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "occupation_code_or": ["2512"], "job_country_code_or": ["US"],
        "posted_at_max_age_days": 7, "status": "active", "include_total_results": true, "limit": 10 }'
```

How this was measured

Measured from active postings in the JobsPipe index, each counted once. Generated 2026-10-11. Shares only: JobsPipe publishes percentages, not counts.

Employer concentration groups postings by normalized company name. Closure speed uses postings on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, SmartRecruiters, Teamtailor, Recruitee, Personio that closed in the 60 days before the snapshot, measured from first sighting. This is the first edition on this method; month-on-month comparisons start with the next.
