# How to Stay Up to Date With Hiring Trends?

How to stay up to date with hiring trends: a monthly Pulse read, a weekly query on newly sighted postings, a skills cut and an alert that does the rest.

How to stay up to date with hiring trends? Combine one slow read with one fast one. Monthly, check an occupation and industry snapshot built from live postings. Weekly, run a query for postings first sighted since your last look in the segment you care about, and let an alert carry the rest.

## How to stay up to date with hiring trends in six habits

1. **Take the monthly read.** The [Labour Market Pulse](https://jobspipe.dev/pulse) publishes shares of live postings by occupation and industry, advertised pay by occupation and the share of postings mentioning AI tooling, refreshed monthly. Read it once, note what changed against last month, move on.
2. **Run a weekly query on newly sighted postings.** Define your segment with the filters you would use in conversation: titles, countries, company size, seniority. Then add `discovered_at_gte` set to the date of your last run. Each posting appears once, and the number of new rows per week becomes your own volume index. Keep the filters fixed between runs; changing them breaks the comparison.
3. **Cut by skills.** Add `skills_or` to the same query to see which requirements travel with your segment, or read `technology_slugs` on each returned row. The current ranking per function is in [in-demand skills](https://jobspipe.dev/blog/in-demand-skills).
4. **Let alerts do the watching.** [Signals](https://jobspipe.dev/signals) runs a saved search on a schedule and delivers matches by email, Slack or a signed webhook. Set one per segment and stop checking by hand. Instant delivery suits account watching; a daily digest suits trend reading.
5. **Compare boards.** The same segment looks different on LinkedIn, Indeed and the applicant tracking boards, because each has its own mix of employers. Run the query with `source_or` per board before merging the results.
6. **Keep a log.** Write down the figure you saw and the date. Trends are only visible against your own past readings, and the free tier is enough to keep this going indefinitely.

None of this needs a data team. The monthly read takes ten minutes, the weekly query is a saved request, and the alert runs without you. What you gain is a record of your own segment that no published index tracks. Two mistakes are common: reading a single board as the market, when each board has its own employer mix, and treating a weekly dip as a trend, when postings are lumpy and a holiday week can thin them without any change in hiring.

Try it without a key

```
curl -d '{"limit":3}' https://api.jobspipe.dev/v1/sandbox/jobs/search
```

Only `/v1/sandbox/*` needs no key.

## Where JobsPipe fits

JobsPipe is a jobs data API that collects live postings from LinkedIn, Indeed, Y Combinator, Workday, Greenhouse, Workable, SmartRecruiters, Ashby, Lever and Paylocity, returns them as one schema with closure tracking and a ghost score, and includes a free tier of 1,000 jobs to start. The weekly habit is one request:

```
curl -X POST https://api.jobspipe.dev/v1/jobs/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JOBSPIPE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "job_title_or": ["data engineer"], "job_country_code_or": ["DE"], "discovered_at_gte": "2026-09-02 00:00:00", "limit": 100 }'
```

Try the same filters without a key on the sandbox endpoint at `POST https://api.jobspipe.dev/v1/sandbox/jobs/search`, which returns a reduced set of fields.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What are hiring trends?

Hiring trends are changes in what employers advertise: the volume of new postings, the occupations and industries they fall in, the skills and seniority they ask for, remote share and stated pay. They are measured from postings as they appear, which makes them faster than official employment statistics.

### How often should I check hiring trends?

Monthly for the broad picture, weekly for your own segment. A monthly occupation and industry snapshot catches structural change; a weekly query on postings first sighted since your last run catches the accounts and roles that matter to you. Daily checks add noise rather than information.

### Do I need an API key to try this?

No. The sandbox endpoint at POST https://api.jobspipe.dev/v1/sandbox/jobs/search accepts the same filters without a key and returns a reduced set of fields. A free API key adds the full record and 1,000 jobs to start; Signals alerts require an account.
