What does an AI agent do?

An AI agent carries out a multi-step task on a person's behalf: it takes a goal, breaks it into actions, uses tools such as search, APIs and code to perform them, checks the results and continues until the goal is met or it needs a decision from you. It does work, not just conversation.

In recruiting the concrete jobs look like this. A sourcing agent takes a role brief, searches live postings for the same title at competitor companies to learn how the market describes it, then drafts a search strategy with the skills and seniority that real postings use. A market-check agent pulls every active posting for a title in a country, groups them by company and reports which employers are hiring for it and whether they disclose salary. A screening assistant compares a candidate's skills against the skills_or values that appear in current postings for the target role.

For job boards and go-to-market teams the pattern is the same with different tools. A board-refresh agent polls for postings discovered since its last run, drops those with a high ghost score, and writes the rest into the board's index. A sales agent watches for a company's first sales posting, scans the company domain for its tech stack with detect_company_tech_stack, and drafts outreach that names the tool the prospect already runs. A research agent answers questions such as which companies are hiring Kubernetes engineers remotely by composing the query rather than by guessing from training data.

Each of those relies on a tool that returns current postings. Through the JobsPipe MCP server the agent calls search_jobs with filters such as job_title_or, company_name_or, remote, max_ghost_score and discovered_at_gte. Through the REST API the same filters go to POST /v1/jobs/search. What the agent does is bounded by what its tools can reach, so the data tool is the first thing to choose.

What can AI agents do?

Anything expressible as a sequence of tool calls: search, read, compare, write, notify. In recruiting that means building sourcing strategies from live postings, monitoring competitors' hiring, screening skills against market demand and keeping a job board fresh. Outside recruiting the same loop books, researches, codes and files. The limit is the tools, not the model.

What can an AI agent do without a human?

Whatever its permissions allow. Read-only work such as searching postings, scanning a tech stack and drafting a report can run unattended. Actions with consequences, such as sending outreach or posting a job, should require a person's approval. JobsPipe's tools are all read-only, so an agent connected to them can gather freely but cannot change anything.

Can an AI agent apply to jobs for me?

Some products attempt it by filling application forms automatically. JobsPipe does not do that: it returns public postings with a link to apply, and holds no candidate profiles or contact data. An agent built on it can find and rank postings, filter out likely ghost listings with max_ghost_score, and hand you the links, but the application is yours to send.

What does an AI agent do with a job posting?

It reads the structured fields rather than the page. From a JobsPipe result it uses job_title, company, date_posted, min_annual_salary_usd, technology_slugs and ghost_score to rank, group or compare postings, then reasons over the description text where a field is not enough. Structured input is what makes the agent's next decision reliable.
